GoDaddy Airo vs Squarespace (2026): Which Platform Is Worth Your Money?

GoDaddy Airo vs Squarespace (2026): Which Platform Should You Choose?

GoDaddy Airo wins. Squarespace has better-looking templates and a more polished editor, but when I put a business description into each platform’s AI, one wrote copy and the other arranged placeholder text. Blueprint AI builds layouts. Airo AI Builder builds content. That difference drove the verdict.

1. Pricing Comparison

The gap between what these platforms advertise and what you actually pay at the end of year one is smaller than you might expect, but the differences that exist are worth understanding before you commit.

What the Numbers Mean in Practice

At face value, GoDaddy Airo is cheaper across every equivalent tier. The Website Builder Basic at $9.99 per month versus Squarespace Basic at $12 per month, and the Commerce plan at $20.99 per month versus Squarespace Advanced at $25 per month, both favor GoDaddy.

But two things complicate that picture.

On Squarespace’s transaction fees

The most important number on the Squarespace pricing page is not the monthly plan cost. It’s the transaction fee that applies to digital products and memberships.

On the Basic plan, digital content and membership sales carry a 7% transaction fee. On Core, that drops to 5%. On Advanced, it reaches 0%. For any business selling courses, downloads, or subscription access, these fees need to be calculated against expected monthly sales volume before choosing a plan, not after.

For physical product sales, Squarespace Basic charges 2% per transaction. Moving to Core at $17 per month removes that fee entirely. For most small stores, Core is the practical starting point, not Basic.

GoDaddy Airo’s standard plans carry no stated transaction fee on product sales, which is a genuine pricing advantage for sellers.

On AI credits

Both platforms use a credit system for AI features, but they work differently:

  • GoDaddy Airo AI Builder credits power the entire build, editing, and revision process. The free tier provides 50 credits per month, the Starter plan provides 150, and credits expire at the end of each billing cycle without rolling over. Running out of credits mid-project means either waiting for the cycle to reset or upgrading your plan.
  • Squarespace AI credits are more limited in scope. The Basic plan provides 10 credits as a one-time allocation, Core provides 20 per month, and Advanced provides 120 per month. These credits power Squarespace’s AI tools (text rewriting, Blueprint AI layout generation), not the entire building process. On Squarespace, you can build and edit your site without AI credits; the credits only unlock specific AI-assisted actions.

On refunds

GoDaddy’s Websites + Marketing plans carry a 7-day refund window. The Airo AI Builder annual plans are refundable within 30 days, provided no AI credits have been consumed and no generated content has been exported.

Squarespace does not publish a universal refund window for website plans; refund requests are reviewed individually. Email Campaigns and Getty Images subscriptions on Squarespace are explicitly non-refundable. GoDaddy’s refund structure is more transparent about its terms.

Tip
On Squarespace, if you are considering the Basic plan for a store, calculate your expected monthly digital product revenue first. At $1,000 per month in digital sales, the 7% fee on Basic adds $70 per month in charges. Upgrading to Core at $17 per month saves $53 per month at that volume. On GoDaddy Airo AI Builder, use the free tier to build your full project before any paid upgrade. You can publish one site, test the product, and upgrade only when the credit ceiling or site limit is a genuine constraint.
And the winner is GoDaddy Airo!
GoDaddy Airo wins on pricing. The free tier with a published site, lower entry price, and no transaction fees on standard plans all favor GoDaddy. Squarespace Core at $17 per month with 0% transaction fees is competitive for eCommerce, but GoDaddy's pricing structure is more accessible across all entry points.

2. Ease of Use

Getting a professional site live quickly matters, but the path to that outcome is different enough on these two platforms that the right choice depends on what kind of user you are.

Getting Started: The Real Experience

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder begins the moment you type a prompt. There is no template gallery to browse, no design decisions to make upfront, and no domain commitment before the AI starts working.

You describe your business, answer two tailored follow-up questions about visual style and messaging tone, and the AI plans a five-page site structure, selects a color palette, chooses a font pairing, and sources images before building anything.

screenshot of GoDaddy Airo AI Builder

The planning phase shows its reasoning in real time. For Mara & Co., I watched the AI decide on “Organic Luxury Warm Ivory” as the color palette name and Cormorant Garamond paired with Jost as the typography before the first section appeared on screen.

screenshot of GoDaddy Airo AI Builder media files

That transparency is useful because it lets you catch a direction you dislike before credits are spent building it.

Squarespace takes a different path. The Blueprint AI asks for your site category, color palette preference, and font style, then assembles a site structure from pre-built sections that match your answers.

screenshot of Squarespace AI Builder

Unlike GoDaddy Airo, Blueprint AI does not write copy. It populates placeholder text that you replace with your own content. The AI is making layout and design decisions, not content decisions.

Inside the editor, Squarespace’s Fluid Engine uses a grid system where elements snap to defined positions. This prevents the accidental overlaps and misaligned elements that an open canvas editor makes possible.

screenshot of Squarespace editor

The Site Styles panel allows global changes: updating a font, color, or button style updates every instance of that element across the entire site simultaneously, which is one of the most practical design tools available on any website builder.

On mobile specifically, both platforms handle this differently

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder generates actual code (React components and TypeScript), which means mobile responsiveness is written into the CSS from the build. In testing, the Mara & Co. mobile preview showed sections stacking correctly without manual intervention.

You cannot visually adjust breakpoints in the editor; changes to mobile behavior happen through follow-up prompts rather than by dragging elements in a mobile view.

screenshot of the Change Device button

Squarespace’s Fluid Engine grid auto-adapts content for mobile screens without requiring manual adjustment in most cases.

Because elements are constrained to grid positions on desktop, the mobile adaptation is predictable. The trade-off is that you cannot make layout decisions that deviate significantly from how the grid stacks on smaller screens; what you build within the grid constraints is what mobile visitors see.

screenshot of the Section editor

And the winner is Squarespace!
Squarespace wins on ease of use for users who want design safety and consistent results. The Fluid Engine grid prevents layout mistakes, mobile adaptation is largely automatic, and the Site Styles panel makes brand consistency effortless. GoDaddy Airo AI Builder is faster to start and more informative during the build phase, making it the better choice for users who want to understand what the AI is building. For beginners with no design confidence, Squarespace's guardrails deliver a professional result more reliably.

3. AI and Site Generation

Both platforms use AI to help you build, but using the same label to describe what they do obscures a meaningful difference in what each tool actually produces.

What the AI Actually Produced

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder with Mara & Co.:

The initial prompt described a boutique interior design studio in Austin, Texas, specializing in residential spaces with warm natural materials.

The output reflected those details specifically:

  • Homepage headline: “Spaces that feel like you”
  • Services section: Full-Room Redesign, Furniture Sourcing, and Virtual Consultations named and individually described
  • Color palette: “Organic Luxury Warm Ivory,” derived from the style answer
  • Typography: Cormorant Garamond for display, Jost for body, appropriate for the brand aesthetic
  • The about section described a studio rooted in Austin’s design sensibility and warm materiality

screenshot of the homepage

This is content generation, not template filling. The AI used the prompt details to produce copy specific to Mara & Co., not generic copy with the business name substituted in.

Squarespace Blueprint AI:

Blueprint AI takes a different approach entirely. Rather than generating copy from your business description, it asks you to choose a site category, a color palette, and a font style, then assembles sections from Squarespace’s template library that match those choices.

The sections arrive populated with placeholder text in a format like “Describe your product here” that you then replace with your own content.

Squarespace’s AI is a layout decision-maker, not a content creator. Its value is in selecting design elements that work well together and building a structure appropriate for your business category. It does not attempt to write your homepage headline from a business description.

screenshot of the Edit button

The one AI feature Squarespace offers that GoDaddy Airo does not is AI Visibility. This tool tracks how your site appears in AI search engine results (ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar), with Core plan users getting 20 prompt runs per month and Advanced users getting 120.

For businesses concerned about their presence in AI-powered search results, this is a forward-looking feature with no GoDaddy Airo equivalent currently.

Squarespace also offers AI text rewriting within the editor, which works on existing copy you have written. It can improve, shorten, or adjust tone on selected text. GoDaddy Airo’s inline “Edit with Airo” button performs a similar function, rewriting the selected text with a single click. Neither platform’s inline rewriting tool allows tone or style guidance; both produce a rewritten version you can accept or regenerate.

On the credit systems in context

The structural difference between the two credit systems shapes how freely you can use the AI on each platform:

  • On GoDaddy Airo, credits are consumed by building, editing, and every follow-up prompt. The free tier’s 50 credits per month is enough for an initial build but limits how much iteration you can do before the cycle resets
  • On Squarespace, the AI credits are optional. You can build, edit, layout, and publish your entire site without spending a single AI credit. Credits are used only when you invoke a specific AI tool (rewriting, Blueprint AI setup). Running out of credits does not limit your ability to use the platform; it only limits your access to AI-assisted actions

This means Squarespace’s platform is more predictable in terms of what you can do at any credit balance. GoDaddy Airo’s capability is more directly tied to how many credits you have remaining.

And the winner is GoDaddy Airo!
GoDaddy Airo wins on AI and site generation. For users who want AI to produce specific, brand-relevant copy from their business description, Airo AI Builder is the more capable tool. Squarespace's Blueprint AI is valuable for design decisions but produces no content, meaning you still need to write your own copy after the AI builds the layout. Squarespace's AI Visibility tracking is the one AI feature where it leads, and it is worth knowing about for businesses focused on future-proofing their search presence.

4. Design and Templates

Squarespace built its reputation on design quality, and that reputation still reflects something real in 2026.

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder does not offer a template gallery. Your site’s design emerges from your prompt and the two style and tone questions. The color palette, typography, section layout, and imagery are all AI-determined before the first page appears.

This is faster than browsing a template library and produces design choices that are consistent with the brand direction you described.

Once in Edit mode, your controls are:

  • Section level: Move Up and Move Down arrows, zoom controls, navigation between sections
  • Element level: Replace, Modify, Reposition, Delete, and an AI sparkle button for suggestions
  • Text: Inline editing with a floating toolbar, plus the “Edit with Airo” button for AI rewrites
  • Images: Left panel with Adjust, Finetune, and Filters tabs; Crop and Rotate controls; a Replace option that opens a media library with free Getty Images stock photos by keyword

screenshot of the Image editor

The section-based editor does not support drag-and-drop reordering. Moving a section requires clicking the arrow buttons one step at a time. For minor reorganization, this works. For significant restructuring of a page, it adds time.

screenshot of the move sections buttons

Squarespace

Squarespace approaches design from the opposite direction. You start by browsing templates organized by industry and style, choosing one that fits your visual direction, and then customizing from that foundation.

The 160 or so templates Squarespace offers are fewer than most competitors, but the quality control is consistent. Every template uses modern typography, appropriate whitespace, and high-resolution imagery layouts.

screenshot of design templates

The Fluid Engine grid editor prevents the accidental overlaps and misaligned elements that free-canvas editors make possible. When you move an element, it snaps to a grid position. This limits creativity at the margins but ensures the site looks intentional.

The Site Styles panel is where Squarespace leads most website builders. Changing a font pack or color palette updates every heading, button, and styled element across the entire site in one action, with no risk of leaving outdated styling on individual pages.

screenshot of theme editor

GoDaddy Airo does not have an equivalent control; global design changes require describing the desired change in a follow-up prompt and waiting for the AI to update the code.

One shared limitation worth noting: Both platforms lock you into your design foundation. Squarespace templates cannot be switched after launch; a redesign means rebuilding from scratch. GoDaddy Airo generates your design from a prompt, and while follow-up prompts can adjust individual elements, a complete design direction change is not possible without starting a new project.

For CSS customization, Squarespace Core and Advanced plans allow direct CSS editing, giving designers code-level control over the visual output. GoDaddy Airo AI Builder does not expose CSS editing in the editor UI. The code the AI generates can be downloaded on paid plans, but editing it manually is outside the intended workflow.

And the winner is Squarespace!
Squarespace wins on design and templates. The curated template library, consistent quality standards, Fluid Engine grid, and Site Styles panel give Squarespace a design advantage that is real and significant. GoDaddy Airo's AI-generated design is impressive for speed and brand coherence, but users who want to deviate from the initial output, control global styling precisely, or access CSS-level customization will find Squarespace's tools more capable.

5. eCommerce

Adding a shop to an existing GoDaddy Airo AI Builder site revealed important details about how its eCommerce actually works in practice, and those details matter for any business where selling is the point.

What Adding a Shop to GoDaddy Airo AI Builder Actually Looked Like

To test how Airo handles eCommerce, I used a follow-up prompt on the existing Mara & Co. project asking it to add a shop with three product categories: design consultation packages, curated home goods, and digital downloads.

Here is what happened step by step:

  • Airo loaded a dedicated Commerce skill and began the store setup process
  • It asked which GoDaddy Commerce store to connect, showing existing stores in the account alongside an option to create a new “Mara & Co.” store

screenshot of Airo builder

  • Creating a new store failed twice in succession with a persistent error on the Commerce side

screenshot of building process

  • As a workaround, I selected an existing store (Orionis) from the account to host the Mara & Co. catalog

screenshot of existing stores list

  • Airo detected the store currency was PHP (Philippine Peso) and flagged that GoDaddy Payments Commerce checkout is not available for non-US/Canada merchants

screenshot of setting business location

  • It then asked two questions: where the business sells from (US selected) and whether recurring payments were needed (one-time only selected)

godaddy airo vs squarespace

  • With US and one-time confirmed, GoDaddy Payments was provisioned
  • Airo bulk-created all 7 products in a single API call

screenshot of message that all 7 products created

  • It then built the shop catalog page, product detail pages, cart drawer, checkout confirmation page, and checkout wiring, all in parallel
  • A “SHOP” link was added to the navigation bar automatically, along with a cart icon in the header

screenshot of message that all errors are fixed

  • 25 TypeScript errors were encountered and self-corrected during the build

The end result was a complete, functional shop integrated into the Mara & Co. site. But the process exposed two significant limitations that any business considering GoDaddy Airo for eCommerce needs to understand:

  • GoDaddy Airo’s eCommerce is not self-contained. It routes through GoDaddy Commerce as the backend. This is not a plugin or integration; it is the underlying architecture. Adding a shop via Airo is essentially connecting a GoDaddy Commerce store to your Airo-built site
  • Creating a new store failed. The workaround of using an existing store worked, but a user without an existing GoDaddy Commerce store may hit this same failure point without a fallback. This is a beta-phase limitation, but it is worth knowing before you expect the process to work seamlessly

Squarespace eCommerce

Squarespace’s eCommerce is built into the platform from the ground up. There is no backend store to connect, no store creation step, and no separate Commerce provisioning.

You add products from within the same dashboard you use to edit your site, and the checkout experience is native.

screenshot of the Edit Physical Products window

Squarespace Payments is available in 13 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. For businesses outside those countries, Stripe, PayPal, and Square are available as alternatives. The payment processor options are narrower than GoDaddy’s across a global footprint, but the integration is tighter.

The transaction fee structure on Squarespace requires attention before choosing a plan:

  • Selling digital products or memberships on the Basic plan carries a 7% transaction fee, which is the highest digital product fee of any major website builder at this price tier
  • Moving to Core at $17 per month drops the digital fee to 5% and removes the online store fee entirely
  • Advanced at $25 per month eliminates all transaction fees including the 5% digital fee

Abandoned cart recovery is available on all Squarespace paid plans, including the Basic plan, which is a meaningful advantage over platforms that gate this feature behind higher tiers.

Squarespace does not use AI to pre-generate a product catalog. Every product requires manual setup, including adding images, writing descriptions, setting prices, and configuring variants. The product management interface is clean and well-designed, but there is no AI shortcut to getting your catalog built.

And the winner is Squarespace!
Squarespace wins on eCommerce architecture and reliability. The native, self-contained store setup, abandoned cart recovery on all plans, and predictable checkout flow give Squarespace the more solid foundation for businesses where selling is the primary goal. GoDaddy Airo AI Builder's prompt-driven shop build is impressive when it works, producing a complete store in one session, but the dependency on GoDaddy Commerce as a backend and the new store creation failure in testing introduce friction that Squarespace does not have.

6. SEO and Performance

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder

GoDaddy Airo AI Builder sites are generated with validated code, as the build log shows an explicit endpoint validation step before each page is marked complete.

The generated pages include meta tags, canonical URLs, and structured navigation. Standard SEO fundamentals are present, but the platform does not offer a dedicated keyword research tool, an SEO checklist, or an AI tool for monitoring search visibility.

For a small business targeting local or low-competition search terms, the SEO baseline in the generated code is adequate. For businesses targeting competitive national or international keywords, the platform currently provides no guidance on how to improve organic visibility beyond the technical setup.

Squarespace

Squarespace covers SEO fundamentals with the same technical baseline: custom metadata, auto-generated XML sitemaps, redirect management, and Google Search Console integration. Where it adds more is in two areas.

First, the built-in SEO panel includes step-by-step guidance that walks you through tasks like adding a meta description, verifying your domain, and connecting analytics. This reduces the risk of leaving basic SEO work incomplete.

Second, the AI Visibility feature (available on all plans, with 10 to 120 prompt runs per month depending on tier) tracks how your site appears in AI-powered search results from tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. GoDaddy Airo has no equivalent feature. For businesses thinking about how their online presence will need to evolve as AI search becomes more common, this is the more forward-looking option.

On CSS and code injection, Squarespace Core and Advanced plans allow CSS customization and code injection in the site header and footer, which is useful for adding custom tracking scripts, analytics tools, or structured data markup. GoDaddy Airo AI Builder does not expose these controls in the editor. The generated code can be downloaded on paid plans, but editing it and re-importing it is outside the normal workflow.

And the winner is GoDaddy Airo!
This category is close. Both platforms cover SEO fundamentals adequately for most small businesses. Squarespace edges ahead on the SEO guidance experience (the step-by-step panel reduces the chance of missing basics) and on AI Visibility tracking, which is a meaningful differentiator for businesses thinking about future search trends. GoDaddy Airo's generated code is technically clean, but the platform offers less SEO tooling to help you act on that foundation.

7. Support

The gap between these two platforms on support availability is the widest of any category in this comparison.

Knowledge baseYesYes, polished with video tutorials

GoDaddy Airo

GoDaddy Airo offers phone, text, and live chat support around the clock across all plan tiers. No upgrade is required to reach a person, and the channel breadth is unusual at this price range.

Phone and text support are particularly valuable for business owners who are not at a computer when something breaks, or who prefer to talk through a problem rather than type it out.

During the eCommerce testing, when the new store creation failed repeatedly, the platform’s recovery mechanism (Airo offering to use an existing store as a workaround) handled the situation within the builder.

For more complex account-level issues or billing questions, having a phone channel available is a meaningful fallback.

Squarespace

Squarespace offers live chat Monday through Friday between 4 am and 8 pm Eastern time, plus email support available around the clock. There is no phone support on any plan.

The live chat quality from available research on Squarespace’s support is well-regarded. Agents are knowledgeable, and the knowledge base articles are well-written with high-production video tutorials.

However, the availability gap is significant. If something goes wrong on your site on a Saturday afternoon, or late at night before a product launch, live chat is not available. Email is the only real-time option outside business hours, and email response times vary.

Squarespace’s knowledge base is cleaner and more visually polished than GoDaddy’s. Articles are well-structured, and the video tutorials are production-quality.

screenshot of the Squarespace Help Center

For users who prefer self-service documentation, Squarespace’s help content is among the better examples in the industry.

GoDaddy’s help center is more extensive in total volume but less curated, which means finding the specific article you need can take more clicks than on Squarespace.

And the winner is GoDaddy Airo!
GoDaddy Airo wins on support by a significant margin. Phone and text support available around the clock, with no plan-tier restriction, is a meaningful practical advantage for any business that cannot afford to wait until Monday morning for a live response. Squarespace's support quality is strong when available, and the knowledge base is excellent for self-service, but the live chat hours limitation is a real constraint for users outside US Eastern time business hours.

Overall Verdict: GoDaddy Airo vs Squarespace

GoDaddy Airo wins this comparison. The AI generates specific, brand-relevant copy from your business description rather than placeholder text, the pricing is lower at every equivalent tier, and phone and text support are available around the clock with no plan-tier restriction.

For a small business owner who wants AI to do real work from a prompt, Airo AI Builder is the more capable tool.

Squarespace is the better choice when design quality is the deciding factor. Its templates are consistently polished, the Fluid Engine grid prevents layout mistakes, and the native eCommerce setup is more reliable than Airo’s current Commerce dependency. If your brand depends on visual presentation above everything else, Squarespace delivers that more predictably.

Často kladené otázky

Is GoDaddy Airo better than Squarespace for beginners?

It depends on what “better” means for the individual user. Squarespace is easier in the sense that its Fluid Engine grid prevents layout mistakes and mobile adaptation is largely automatic. GoDaddy Airo is faster to launch and generates actual copy from a business description rather than placeholder text. For a beginner who needs a site live quickly with relevant copy, GoDaddy Airo AI Builder has the advantage. For a beginner who wants design safety and a professional result without worrying about layout, Squarespace is the more forgiving option.

Does Squarespace have better design than GoDaddy Airo?

Yes, in terms of template quality and design consistency. Squarespace’s 160-plus templates are uniformly polished, the Fluid Engine grid prevents accidental layout errors, and the Site Styles panel makes brand consistency effortless. GoDaddy Airo AI Builder generates a coherent design from a prompt but offers less creative control after the initial build and no template library to browse.

Which is cheaper, GoDaddy Airo or Squarespace?

GoDaddy Airo is cheaper across most tiers. The Website Builder Basic at $9.99 per month versus Squarespace Basic at $12, and no transaction fees on standard GoDaddy plans versus Squarespace’s 2% online store fee and 7% digital product fee on Basic. Squarespace Core at $17 per month removes most transaction fees and is competitive for eCommerce, but the overall pricing advantage belongs to GoDaddy.

Can GoDaddy Airo AI Builder build a complete online store?

Yes, but with caveats. In testing, Airo built a complete shop with a catalog page, product detail pages, cart, and checkout via a follow-up prompt. However, the shop requires GoDaddy Commerce as the backend, and creating a new store failed during testing, requiring an existing store as a workaround. Once connected, the eCommerce build worked well. Businesses planning to use Airo for eCommerce should confirm their GoDaddy Commerce store is set up before attempting the shop build.

Which platform has better support, GoDaddy Airo or Squarespace?

GoDaddy Airo has broader support availability. Phone, text, and live chat are available around the clock on all plans without tier restrictions. Squarespace offers live chat Monday through Friday during business hours (EST), email support around the clock, and no phone option. For businesses that need support outside weekday business hours, GoDaddy’s channel breadth is a meaningful advantage.
