I had been a customer of Apollo - their predecessor for 16 yrs. I typically renewed in 3 yr increments. These new guys never sent an invoice - just cut off my service without warning when I didn't realize it was up for renewal. They want a roughly 1/3 price increase as well as a blackmail fee of $150 to recover my prior data. 24 hrs of email was unrecoverable. Moreover I was in a chat queue for ~2 hrs. to find all this out.
Where did you move to? Any advice would be appreciated. I maintain an ecommerce site going to zero sales with their migration. Average page load time changed from 2.8-3.2 seconds to 35-45 seconds. Not sure what there new equipment is but its obviously a major downgrade in capabilities.
I would have to question whether the expert review was really done in 2016 and whether the expert really had an account there - EVER. NTT SOLD Verio in 2015 to the Endurance International Group and Endurance "merged" the flailing ApolloHosting they already owned under the Verio name. NTT divested of it's "retail hosting" - Endurance specializes in it... Bluehost, HostGator, iPage, Domain.com, A Small Orange, MOJO Marketplace, BigRock and ResellerClub, among others they own.
The Verio customers as well as previous ApolloHosting customers mutually agree on the absolute horror they have encountered. MANY Verio customers fled and many of the remaining are in peril as Endurance has not migrated many of the accounts they have been responsible to migrate for a year now and sent notifications to those customers their services will be turned off effective November 28th. YES - the websites, email and other services Endurance/Verio has FAILED TO MIGRATE for a YEAR are simply being terminated AFTER they forced customers to accept a migrate to the new platform agreement or have their services turned off last year.
And FYI, the migraton tools they supposedly offer DO NOT WORK. I have Linux VPS, Windows shared plans and Zimbra email accounts with them. NONE have been migrated and NONE of the migration tools, links or anything else they tout even works.
The support is not knowledgeable or responsive. The uptime is dicey. I get constant "site down" notices. Needless to say you should read Verio reviews from elsewhere.
I am currently experiencing the migration nightmare you refer to. Originally signed with Best Internet in the '90s with a shell account to service email to my private domain. Bought by verio at some point. Worked acceptably well, for the most part over the years, but now with this forced migration they have lost over a month's worth of my emails, collapsed my email folder hierarchy and it looks like I won't have shell (SSH) support (not sure about that -- too far down the list to get to it yet). Support is painfully slow to deal with, promises they will fix things and then I see no progress at all. Looking for a new home for sure.
I agree with you. I am Verio for many many years since iServer days. I am a VPS plan. This time force migration was a disaster. My websites we down and out of email for several days. The migration instructions was not clear and keep asking them for information and they just ignore me. The supports was very slow. I think I should start to plan to move out totally. Any good hosting company to recommend?
I went with a2hosting.com, but I don't recommend their non-cpanel VPS for novices as there's not much support. If you want to use a cPanel implementation, they provide more support. For the couple of times I did call them, the hold times were short or non-existent and they were knowledgeable. In all honesty, -any- provider other than Verio is going to be a breath of fresh air and welcomed change. Do a little research, pick one, and go for it.
